REVIEW

The first time I read this movie title, I am very interested with the title. In this era there are many bullying crimes that make their victims feel insecure with what is in themselves. This movie tell us to love ourselves. It tells body shaming and insecurities in such a universal and proves how urgent and important this issue is, regardless of the character's social status and gender. In this era, women are expected not only to be qualified but to be presentable especially in the workplace. If Rara been a man, her problems might have been different. She might not have needed to worry about her appearance as much if her brain alone was enough to earn her the promotion.

This film is not just for women. Men can also relate to the case. To make the soul of the movie more relatable, Ernest and Meira widened the definition of insecurities, applying it to the male characters, Dion Wiyoko's character is constantly doubted by his mother who happens to own the company and Reza Rahadian is insecure about dating someone whose physical appearance changes.

The film reminds us that beauty is not just about slim, white skin,or straight hair. whatever that you have, you are beautiful if you love and be yourself. at the end of the day, insecurities do not belong to a certain gender. We should celebrate our imperfections and be grateful for what we have instead of being insecure over what we don’t. For that matter,Imperfect deserves to be grateful.
